Australians on active service in South Vietnam encountered ethical challenges resulting from the severe cultural dislocation of deployment to a war zone. Ethical issues related to daily survival, to meeting basic human “needs”, and to existing in primitive conditions in close proximity to other men. These twelve short stories, derived from real-life experience, describe aspects of active service in Vietnam. They demonstrate how each of us needs a conceptual framework for determining ethical behaviour and for reviewing the ethical bases for decisions made.
" At the Royal Military College we teach our future leaders to live Army’s values and commit to and understand the Military Ethic. This collection of short stories will cause you to question your values, review your ethical framework and allow the potential leader to consider what they may have done in similar situations. If we get the individual and collective ethical framework right early, we will make the right decisions later."
